April Felipe was born in, Queens, New York. The city was an amazing place to grow up, exposing her to a wide variety of characters, constant action and energy compacted into small spaces. She received her B.F.A from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. April then worked for Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. In 2007 she enrolled in the ceramics graduate program at Ohio University, receiving her M.F.A in 2010. She is currently living In Ohio working in her studio.
In this workshop, participants will create small sculptural relief tiles designed for wall display. Each tile will transform a meaningful memory or story into a ceramic form. We will explore a variety of approaches to pattern, texture, and imagery, along with surface techniques including underglaze and cold finishes.
Methods for incorporating mixed media will also be introduced, including adhesives and materials that can be applied post firing. Participants will learn practical techniques for mounting and displaying ceramic work on the wall.
Together, we will create small works with personal meaning and visual impact, turning everyday experiences and memories into powerful ceramic objects.
The workshop price includes the cost of the clay. We will bisque fire any pieces that students make in the workshop.
