Registration Information and Policies

Classes

We offer a wide array of classes for adults and youth from beginning to advanced.   Our classes are taught by some of the most accomplished ceramic artists in the Northwest. We are an inclusive and vibrant community where people of all ages and abilities are welcomed and celebrated.  One of the joys of Seward Park Clay Studio is the chance to work side-by-side with our fellow classmates and resident artists during open studio.  We all learn from each other.

Tuition Assistance

Seward Park Clay Studio would like everyone to explore clay. Our clay community shares funds to subsidize the cost of the classes to make them accessible to many, however for some students, that cost is still too much. Our tuition assistance program aims to give a larger subsidy to those who otherwise could not participate.

Tuition assistance is applied as a discount to class fees.  We also give a number of 100% scholarships for students who cannot afford to pay anything. Tuition assistance and scholarships do not include the cost of clay, generally, though we can waive fees for materials if paying for them is not possible.

Those whose household income falls at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (shown below) are eligible for Tuition Assistance. If your household income is Equal to or less than the amount in the following chart, you are eligible for Tuition Assistance at Seward Park Clay Studio. (*a household includes the applicant and any other individuals who share financial responsibility for the household, and all dependents. Household income is the combined gross income generated each year by all the household members, as reported on IRS forms)

Household Size / Income
1 / $29,160
2 / $39,440
3 / $49,720
4 / $60,000
5 / $70,280
6 / $80,560
7 / $90,840
8 / $101,120
For each person over 8 add: $5140

Seward Park Clay Studio reserves the right to offer a class where there are openings. We do try to give the class choice of the applicant, but sometimes that isn’t possible. We ask students to list 2nd and 3rd choices.

Applications for Tuition Assistance are accepted one month before the start of any given quarter, and awards are announced one week before classes begin, and are given on a first-come, first-served basis. If an applicant does not receive an award, we encourage them to apply for the following quarter.

What Is included in your Tuition?

All instruction during scheduled class times as well as access to sign up on the practice calendar (up to 7 hours per week) is included. Also included is your first bag of clay and all glazes, ceramic materials and firings, within reason. After your first bag of clay, you can purchase more clay from us. (there is a five bag clay limit per student per quarter) The fees from these purchases help pay for your glaze materials and firings. Students are not allowed to bring in any clay from outside of our studio.

Safety Protocols & Covid Policy

Classrooms have been set up to have distance between the workstations and spread into two rooms. Each spot has a wheel and a table. We have 13 HEPA air filter machines running continuously.

We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and boosted for Covid, whenever those opportunities arise.

Only registered students, staff, teachers and resident artists are allowed in the building. Please don’t invite guests.

If you tested positive for COVID-19 and have symptoms, isolate at home for at least 5 days after your symptoms first appeared, and wait until you no longer have a fever without use of fever-reducing medications before leaving isolation.

If your symptoms are improving, please wear a well-fitting mask at the studio through day 10 after the start of your symptoms.

Wash your hands frequently and bring your own towel from home and take it away when you leave.
We will monitor state, county and city health department notices and adjust our policies and operations as we deem appropriate.

Stay healthy, stay safe and stay home when sick.

Thank you for abiding by our guidelines in our efforts to keep the entire community safe. If you have any questions, please contact Peter Olsen, Executive Director, Seward Park Clay Studio.
